Guild Challange Night Meeting

Join us September 22 for our meeting in the fellowship room at Reed City Church of the Nazarene.This will be our fourth Challenge Night, a new addition to our fellowship and sharing in 2026. Every other month we will be having a challenge due on our meeting night.

September Challenge is String Blocks.  Bring your created 12-1/2 inch blocks to this nights meeting.

“Strings” are all those leftover fabric strips and pieces that float around everyone’s sewing room. String blocks are simply quilts made from your longer fabric scraps. Strips starting at 1" can be used.  The different widths create interest in the block. String quilt blocks are usually made on a square foundation, but you can play around with other designs found in tutorials or blogs. Square string quilt blocks are made with strips arranged on the diagonal on a foundation. The foundation is best if larger than the finished block size.  For 12-1/2" block cut your foundation at 13"  Types of foundations:

• Muslin
• Copy or printer paper

Paper foundations need to be removed from the blocks before you assemble the quilt. Fabric foundations can be left in as part of the quilt. Although the added foundation layer makes the quilt a bit heavier.  Using a foundation also means you don’t have to worry about stretching or distorting scraps that were cut on the bias.

Challenge Night Meetings  (odd months January, March, May, July, September, November on the 4th Tuesday of the month.) Discuss and Show Challenge Item for the month, receive new challenge theme due at the next challenge night meeting, discuss business needs of the guild, share our Show & Tell with each other, and show any new Quilts to Comfort quilts ready to take to the Susan P. Wheatlake Cancer Center.

Location:  Reed City Church of the Nazarene in the Fellowship Room at the far East end of the building.

Arrive at 6pm for fellowship,  Business meeting starts after 6:30pm
