October 11 is a special day in our household. It is M's birthday and she has been a wonderful daughter. Full of love, laughter, curiosity, exploration and seeming fearlessness. And so I pray, will be this blog. This is a big step for me as I don't feel I am a good writer. My life gets busy so will I end up disappointing people if I don't get to this daily, weekly, etc? But here we go.
Re-Imagined Block of the Month
I've run a few BOMs, meeting every month in the shop to present and sew. After a few months, someone has to miss for one reason or another. Life is busy. Guilt happens and the quilter comes in and says along these lines, "I haven't been able to work on my BOM. I hope to soon." I don't want people to feel obligated to me because they didn't get to their BOM.
SOooo, I decided to do a BOM RE-Imagined. Instead of meeting every month, there will be a two day class to teach the techniques used in the quilt and any tips to pass along. Then at the Friday Finishes sew-ins or at your home you can work on the quilt through the winter and summer as time permits. Come September, we'll have our RE-veil party! It doesn't matter what stage the quilt is in, let us see how you're doing to inspire, encourage and laugh with each other. Of course, at any RE-veil party there are games. Part of the chances to win will be determined by the progress on the quilt. So yep, I want you to work on it and I hope this is a way to encourage you to finish, but if it isn't you can still play. You can still share. You can still encourage, inspire and laugh.
FanFaire by Krista Moser of The Quilted Life is the pattern for this project. It uses her 60% Diamond Ruler (Creative Grids). All the different shapes can be made with this Ruler, so for a small investment you can have a number of shapes and techniques to use in other projects. Diamond is obvious, but there are also hexagons, triangles, parallelograms, and trapezoids. One ruler that helps it all to go together quickly.
