December Sparkles

Here it is, Mid-December already.
Margaret graduated from Concordia University Wisconsin on the 15th.  If this year seems to have gone fast, the last 3-1/2 years have sped by for her schooling along with the last 4-1/2 years of Juneberry Cottage. The time with Margaret during the weekend festivities was lovely.  The weather also cooperated for the trip around the Lake.  We were able to leave our coats in the car.  It makes a parent proud to see a child's accomplishments and their ability to go out on their own.
Now on to January!!!  New techniques to learn and parties and opportunity to help others.
I'm excited to be offering a workshop using Krista Moser (The Quilted Life) pattern, FanFaire.  It uses the Creative Grids 60 degree Diamond ruler also designed by Krista.  The workshop will be Jan 18-19.  See the PDF below for more info or visit the Event on my  facebook page.
The ruler is used for all the shapes in the quilt.  Krista has created many patterns which use the same ruler.  She has also included coloring planning sheets for her patterns so you can really get a great idea of what you want to do.

January brings the Annual W.I.S.E Raid here at Juneberry Cottage.  Drop off new items now through the end of Jan and be entered in a basket drawing.  Focus is on the women, who usually grab items for the kids but forget to grab items for themselves.

Last but not least is the Pajama Party on Jan 26.  Celebrate local quilt shop day by wearing your PJ's to 4 great quilt shops,  Cardinal Creations, JBCottage, Elm Creek and Surrey Rd.  20% off your purchase and an extra goodie when you wear your PJ's.  We will be having a demo from noon-1pm.

October 11 is a special day in our household.  It is M's birthday and she has been a wonderful daughter.  Full of love, laughter, curiosity, exploration and seeming fearlessness. And so I pray, will be this blog.   This is a big step for me as I don't feel I am a good writer. My life gets busy so will I end up disappointing people if I don't get to this daily, weekly, etc?  But here we go.

Re-Imagined Block of the Month

I've run a few BOMs, meeting every month in the shop to present and sew.  After a few months, someone has to miss for one reason or another.  Life is busy.  Guilt happens and the quilter comes in and says along these lines,  "I haven't been able to work on my BOM.  I hope to soon."  I don't want people to feel obligated to me because they didn't get to their BOM.
SOooo, I decided to do a BOM RE-Imagined.  Instead of meeting every month, there will be a two day class to teach the techniques used in the quilt and any tips to pass along.  Then at the Friday Finishes sew-ins or at your home you can work on the quilt through the winter and summer as time permits.  Come September, we'll have our RE-veil party!  It doesn't matter what stage the quilt is in, let us see how you're doing to inspire, encourage and laugh with each other.  Of course, at any RE-veil party there are games.  Part of the chances to win will be determined by the progress on the quilt.  So yep, I want you to work on it and I hope this is a way to encourage you to finish, but if it isn't you can still play. You can still share.  You can still encourage, inspire and laugh.

FanFaire by Krista Moser of The Quilted Life is the pattern for this project.  It uses her 60% Diamond Ruler (Creative Grids).  All the different shapes can be made with this Ruler, so for a small investment you can have a number of shapes and techniques to use in other projects.  Diamond is obvious, but there are also hexagons, triangles, parallelograms, and trapezoids. One ruler that helps it all to  go together quickly.

    June-Marie

Owner of Juneberry Cottage, a quaint shop in Central MI.  Whether you are heading N-S-E-W you can take a slight detour and pass through Evart located on US 10.  The shop has a nice variety of quality quilting fabrics and notions.  Selling Eversewn machines and servicing most others.  Inspiring new sewers and learning new techniques keep me excited.
Thankful for family and friends who have helped out over the past year during many hard-ships to help keep this going.
